Making things grow, whether flowers or relationships, takes hard work. Freddie Morgan, retiring twenty-eight year veteran JeT bus operator, has the ability to do both well. Whether it’s lovingly caring for her fruit trees and flowers at home, or making sure that her passengers, all of whom she considers “her friends” arrive at their destinations safely and in a timely manner, Freddie has patience and perseverance – qualities that make her garden and her relationships with those around her not only grow, but flourish.
Freddie grew up in Smithdale, Mississippi and has lived in the New Orleans area for forty-five years. Because she has always enjoyed “driving and meeting people,” becoming a bus operator was a perfect fit for Freddie. Although she has driven all the routes at one time or another during her years with JeT, Freddie says that Metairie Road has always been her favorite because she enjoys the scenery and “people are like family to me back there.” Coming from Freddie, who obviously cherishes her own family this is no small compliment. It is with much sadness that Freddie says goodbye to her riders and coworkers. “I’ve made friends with so many people out there and I’ve worked with some beautiful people – I’m going to miss them.”
During her retirement, Freddie will be moving to McComb, Mississippi where she has purchased a historic house currently undergoing renovations. Once happily ensconced in her new home, Freddie plans to spend time visiting with her five children, thirteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; learning to fish again; traveling to California, Florida, and Michigan to visit relatives; and, of course, gardening.
